WOMEN &
BABIES PROGRAM AT SUNNYBROOK
BAY STREET FORE
A CAU$E has chosen Sunnybrook Women & Babies Program as the
recipient of funds for their 2008 tournament. The Sunnybrook Health
Sciences Centre is currently building a new four-storey, 120,000
square foot home for Women & Babies at its Bayview Avenue
campus. This will include two floors that will house the Perinatal
& Gynaecology program currently located at 76 Grenville Street.
The W&B Program covers the spectrum of care related to pregnancy,
labour and delivery, care of premature babies and women's reproductive
health. Sunnybrook is home to the second largest high-risk birthing
centre in Ontario and provides care for 20% of all infants in
the province weighing less than three pounds. Of the over 4,000
infants delivered each year, one quarter are high-risk deliveries
and require specialized treatment.
BAY STREET FORE
A CAU$E will partner with Sunnybrook to fund an important care
space within their new facility. Birthing will take place within
the twenty Labour & Delivery (L&D) Suites that will be
housed in the Maternal & Newborn Birthing Unit. Each L&D
suite will be a private, family friendly, space in which women
will labour, deliver and recover, rather then being moved throughout
the Unit. These suites have been designed to meet the needs of
families, providing a comfortable space for a partner to spend
the night and internet access.
